Hightail Desktop Sync Application

PLEASE NOTE: The Hightail desktop sync application is no longer officially supported by Hightail. We will no longer be updating versions or providing patches or bug fixes. If you are still using the app you can find tips, troubleshooting advice and steps to uninstall the app in the article below.


Tips and troubleshooting advice for using the Hightail Desktop Sync App

If files/folders are not syncing between the web app and your desktop sync app try the steps below:

  • Quit the Desktop Sync app and re-launch the app, that will trigger a new fresh sync. 
  • Click on the small Hightail icon select HelpTools > Delete Temp Files
  • Click on the small Hightail icon select HelpTools > Refresh Synced Data
  • Make sure the file directory path is within 256 characters.
  • Make sure that the File/Folder name does not have any special characters. Below are examples of any special characters:
































Error messages

  • If you see an error message that states ‘You have exceeded the available storage space in your Hightail account. Click here to upgrade’, please disregard this message. This is a false error message.


Uninstalling the Hightail Desktop Sync App

Please note that uninstalling the Desktop App will remove the application itself and prevent any further attempts to synchronize with the cloud, but any files that were downloaded to your computer by the application will remain in place on your computer within the Hightail Folder.


  • Click the Windows Start button and open the Control Panel.
  • Select Programs and Features
  • Select Hightail Desktop App
  • Click the Uninstall button
  • A prompt will pop up asking "Are you sure you want to uninstall Hightail Desktop App?" Click Yes
  • Once complete, drag the Hightail icon from the Applications folder to your trash bin.


  • Open your Application Folder on Mac
  • Locate Hightail Desktop App and Right-click to display options and select: Show Package Contents
  • Expand the Contents Folder, and go to Resources
  • Within Resources Folder, locate and double-click: Hightail Desktop App Uninstaller.app to uninstall
  • Follow the prompts to uninstall and enter credentials and complete the app Uninstall
  • Drag the Hightail Desktop App icon to Trash
  • Empty Trash
